Equity-Informed Conflict Resolution in the Workplace

In this practical and interactive training, you will gain tools to have hard conversations, say what you need to say, and listen with your whole self.

Using an interpersonal conflict specific to each participant, we will explore tools and analysis including:

  • Gaining comfort with conflict and direct communication
  • Understanding conflict as related to power, equity, and white supremacy in US American culture
  • Shifting attention to the root of the problem rather than what is at the surface
  • Gaining language to describe needs and feelings
  • Moving from intentions to impacts
  • Practicing

Bring your questions and examples, and learn to apply these skills to keep your job while staying in your power.

Registration Details:

Regular registration: The fee for this workshop is $260. We ask each person to pay what you are able. Space is limited. Register

Work Trade: We also offer a work-trade slot that allows one person to attend for free in exchange for assistance with setup, cleanup, purchasing refreshments with RNW funds, etc. You must enter the lottery by September 13. To register: Work trade lottery

  • Lunch will be on your own. We’ll provide coffee, tea, a continental breakfast, and afternoon snacks. You are also welcome to bring your own food.

Event Organizers

Sandy BacharachSandy Bacharach (she/her pronouns) is a white woman from southern California who came to Portland for college and stayed long after. Sandy worked as the Spanish Language Mediation Specialist with Resolutions Northwest for 12 years and another nearly 4 years as a Facilitation & Training Specialist.  Through this work, Sandy developed and led trainings in English and Spanish on communication and conflict resolution, advanced bilingual mediation, interrupting racism, and addressing the intersection of race/racism in mediation.

Melody MartínezMelody Martinez is a community organizer, facilitator, and racial equity consultant. In Portland, she has primarily worked with statewide non-profits to oversee programmatic work and organizational development focused on creating meaningful, just outcomes for historically underserved communities. In her current role as Oregon Program Manager at Social Justice Fund NW, she organizes and trains community members to understand power and privilege and fundraise for social change. She is an On-call Facilitator at Resolutions Northwest and an Associate Trainer at Class Action where she leads interactive popular education workshops that inspire participants to take action to end classism and racism.
