Learn how to build relationships and show up authentically in the spaces we occupy while being aware of the impacts that our presence can carry.

Restorative Justice is a philosophy that analyzes the ways we show up and occupy spaces, interact and react to conflict, and actively oppose systems of oppression. It is an internal and cultural shift from punitive measures to a focus on healing harms when they occur. This shift is rooted in the value of building and maintaining relationships.

With Restorative Justice being implemented all over the nation in different places and spaces, there is an assumption that everyone involved has done the personal work that is required to successfully cause no further harm – which isn’t always the case.

In this training, we will look at how we personally make this shift from punitive to restorative by exploring:

• Self-analysis
• Identity mapping
• The lessons learned through our childhood experiences
• Historical impacts

Through roleplays and community building interactions, we will explore how to be restorative in day-to-day actions and interactions.

• Prerequisite: Prior training on Restorative Justice from Resolutions Northwest.

Acknowledging that you carry the burden of added emotional and intellectual labor in conversations about racism in the educational system, RNW offers this workshop FREE OF CHARGE to participants of color. If your organization is able to cover the cost of your attendance, we certainly welcome part or all of the fee to support the work of RNW, in particular that of our Black staff & contractors.

This policy is neither an act of reparations or “micro-reparations”; it is a systemic offering to offset the harms caused by white people and the white gaze when trying to understand applied frames for equity.

White participants:

The fee for this workshop is $240. We ask each person to pay what you are able.

Everyone:

With a goal of holding about half the slots for Black and Brown participants, we ask you to share your identities, particularly around race and gender, and to answer a couple of questions about what you need to get from the training. When you complete that, you will be placed on a waiting list. We will confirm registrations individually so that we can be mindful of who will make up our learning community. Registrations will be confirmed after January 6, 2020.
