Come learn and practice tools for effective, inclusive decision making.

Do you want to participate in meetings where decisions are made in a timely fashion, where all voices are included, and where participants can trust that the decision was fair and workable?

With a bit of theory, a smattering of tools, and a dose of practice, we will prepare you for this essential skill in any workplace or community group.

Participants will learn to help their groups:

  • Establish a clear decision-making process
  • De-mystify common group dynamics
  • Shift from debate to a productive, inclusive discussion
  • Sort through complex perspectives and information
  • Generate ideas and set priorities
  • Develop proposals that satisfy the group’s real goals
  • Give decisions a reality-check to make them more workable, lasting and satisfying

Trainers

This workshop is facilitated by Teri Pierson and Elizabeth Erickson.

Elizabeth grew up in Portland and has traveled widely. She has worked with diverse groups and individuals for more than 10 years, with the goal of having more contented people who are working more smoothly together. Elizabeth would someday like to learn to play the cello and go canoe camping. Her comfort foods include egg salad and chocolate milk shakes.

Teri is a student of Aikido, a Japanese martial art that is often called “the art of peace.” If she had more time, she'd like to take lindy hop lessons. Teri is the Facilitation Program Coordinator with Resolutions Northwest and a member of the new Northwest Collaborative for Mindful Facilitation. She has been a facilitator for more than seven years and a trainer for 15. Teri finds it ticklishly funny and devilishly disgusting to think that Elizabeth might put egg salad in a milk shake.
